Despite being linked with a move to the Premier League (mostly Watford and Leicester) quite often, Grégoire Defrel has, for the time being, decided to remain in Serie A whenever possible.

Swapping Sassuolo for AS Roma last summer in a loan with a view to buy, the French forward failed to have the desired impact at his new side, scoring just one goal in 20 appearances, seven of which were starts.

This has led to inevitable stories of a potential exit, despite the transfer yet to have been made permanent by Roma; an event that will take place on July 1st.

Il Messaggero look at the 27-year-old’s situation briefly on Wednesday, expecting Defrel to be a part of Roma’s squad in pre-season, but explain offers for his services will be evaluated with Watford mentioned as one of his options, with Sampdoria remaining the favourites.

This isn’t the first time this summer we’ve seen the Hornets mentioned alongside the French forward, with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting last month that Javi Gracia’s side were keen and that Roma were hoping to sell him outright for €15m.

One to keep an eye on, as Watford appear to be in the market for versatile goalscorers these days.
