Usually, the Belgian squad has a handful of injured players join up, with the pressure not to refuse an international call huge. Perhaps more so than any other country, Belgium in recent years have adopted of policy of calling up anyone remotely fit and available.

In one way in fosters of a culture of how important international call-ups are, and in another it leaves domestic clubs and their managers a nervous wreck.

This time feels a bit different and Belgium have a distinct lack of fitness issues, with those struggling not called up. Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini, who returned against Chelsea at the weekend, is a good example.

Unfortunately for Watford, the one player with an injury worry belongs to them.

Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg report that Christian Kabasele is carrying an issue after the Everton match and will be the subject of ‘further investigations’ by the country’s medical staff.

The Watford defender won’t want to pull out of the squad, and do any harm to his World Cup chances.
