Christian Kabasele moved to Watford from Genk in 2016 and after struggling in his debut season in England, he went on to make 28 appearances in the league last term.

This campaign, the centre-back has been one of the standout performers for Javi Gracia’s side and has played the full 90 minutes in all seven Premier League fixtures.

He has had one of the best seasons of his career so far and that includes impressive displays against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Roberto Martinez has rewarded the 27-year-old by including him in the Belgium squad for matches against Switzerland and Netherlands, after he wasn’t a part of De Rode Duivels side for the 2018 World Cup.

Het Laatste Nieuws sat down for an interview with the defender, in which he was asked about his thoughts on missing out a place.

“Somewhere, I was one of the few who was not sure to go to the World Cup. When the assistant coach knocked on my door and asked me if I had a minute, I knew it,” Kabasele explained.

“In the presence of his entire staff, Martinez congratulated me for my dedication. Look, you can’t blame the national coach, you have to make a choice, you can only accept that.”

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke was in ‘shock’ after being left out of the Belgium squad for the World Cup and he even forgot about his passport in Tubeke where the squad were based. It looks like the Palace attacker was not the only one to misplace his passport.

When asked about Benteke’s shock, Kabasele replied: “He is not alone. (Laughs) After news like that, you are not really busy recovering your passport. I was just in Liege and talking with my wife about where we would go on vacation, which is when I realised that my passport was still in Tubeke…”
