Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu has admitted he enjoyed the best goalscoring period of his career while playing for Watford.
The Spanish forward is currently plying his trade in Italy, having joined the Serie A side on loan in October 2020.
Of course, they are not the first Pozzo owned club he has played for, having initially joined Watford in an £11.7m deal back in 2018.
He was a huge hit with the Hornets, racking up 17 goals and 11 assists in 70 games in total for the club before being moved on to Udinese, initially on loan and then in a permanent deal last year.
His best season was by far the 2018/2019 campaign, during which he managed ten goals and five assists in 30 Premier League games and two goals in three in the FA Cup as well.
Those numbers are ones he’s not replicated since, and he admits that spell with Watford was his best, at least in terms of goalscoring.
“Maybe yes, especially the 2018-19 season,” he told Panenka when asked if Watford was his best period.
“I scored ten goals in the Premiership and two in the FA Cup, one of them in the semi-final.
“That year, I played as a second striker behind Troy Deeney. I managed to adapt very well to the position. I scored a lot of goals simply because I was more in the box.
“Playing up front makes you grow, to look for your life on the pitch, to keep an eye on the two wings. In terms of goals, Watford was my best season.”
