An idea during the summer, Watford’s desire to sign Morten Thorsby from Sampdoria appears to have grown in strength since the arrival of Claudio Ranieri at the helm.
The Italian hasn’t exactly steadied the ship at Vicarage Road since his arrival (two wins, one draw and 10 losses), but his experience in the Premier League appears to be buying him time, and perhaps even an entire January transfer window during which he will try and strengthen his squad.
That’s where Thorsby could come in, because it appears Watford are one of the main rivals for Inter, who have also taken a shine to the Norway international.
Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Hornets are ‘one more enemy’ for the Serie A side, as they have ‘asked for information’ on the midfielder.
That request is said ‘comes directly from Ranieri’, who reportedly ‘appreciated him a lot’ during his spell at Sampdoria between October 2019 and June 2021.
Should Thorsby decide to make the switch to Watford, he would be leaving a 16th placed club in Serie A to join the 17th in the Premier League, meaning that if Inter (currently top of the Italian league) come knocking, it might be hard for the Hornets to convince him to choose them instead.
