Two days ago, we covered claims from Italy that Chelsea are one of the clubs leading the race for Patrick Dorgu. The west London club would face new competition from Newcastle United to sign the US Lecce player.
That’s at least what Gazzetta della Sport are reporting, and they state Newcastle and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in the left-back.
The 19-year-old’s role has changed since Luca Gotti arrived at the Serie A side in March. The manager has used him on both wings and also as a right-back.
Gazzetta say Dorgu has ‘discovered a new life’ as an attacker under Gotti this season.
Dorgu’s agent Maurice Ogbodo is closely linked to British agency Base Soccer, who have good ties with the Premier League sides. This could be the reason for Tottenham Hotspur interest, but the report states one must ‘watch out for Newcastle’.
As well as Eddie Howe’s side, Chelsea are also in the picture. With regards to the Blues, Gazzetta state they are following the newly capped Denmark international. That’s all the report has to say about Newcastle and Chelsea.
Having refused to let him leave in the last window, Lecce have informed Dorgu’s agent they will talk about a transfer next summer. The newspaper adds a deal could be agreed in January, for him to change clubs at the end of this season. This indicates a transfer is more likely to take shape in 2025.
Dorgu is currently valued at €30m, but it could increase to €40m if he continues to shine.
