As Newcastle United continue with their chase for Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo, they should be keeping an eye on what happened with him at the weekend.
The Peixe are going through a very difficult time, fighting against the possibility of relegation, and that’s why manager Marcelo Fernandes tried a solution by benching the centre-forward for Sunday’s clash against Athletico Paranaense.
It turns out that Marcos Leonardo didn’t like that, and according to TNT Sports, the Newcastle target was late to the squad’s presentation for their trip to Curitiba.
It’s then said that the striker is set to get fined by the club board for that.
Marcos Leonardo is Santos’ top scorer this year and it does make sense for him to be upset at the manager for benching him in such an important match.
However, that type of behaviour is clearly not accepted at any club, so that’s something Newcastle should be monitoring before investing in his signing.
According to Globo Esporte today, agent Rafaela Pimenta has opened talks with the Magpies for the transfer, although Real Madrid and Arsenal are also in touch about his signing.
