Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl is on the Monday cover of AS. The Spanish newspaper claim there’s set to be a ‘war’ to sign the player between Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Manchester City have been dragged into Spanish transfer rumours for some time and that has, of course, only increased since Pep Guardiola became manager at the Premier League club.

Real Madrid are said not to be in a hurry, but the competition from Manchester City and others could spur the club into acting.

Manchester City and Barcelona ‘lurk’ for the player, but it’s clear AS believe Madrid hold the advantage.

The claim of agents offering Weigl to another club probably won’t go down too well, and may not be entirely accurate, so a denial would be no surprise.

Having recently extended his contract at BVB until June 2021, a Weigl transfer would be hard for Manchester City or anyone else.
