Genoa general manager Johannes Spors has insisted that Brighton and Hove Albion defender Leo Ostigard wants to stay at the club beyond his current loan deal.

Ostigard is currently on loan with the Italian club, having joined them at the beginning of January after returning from a spell with Stoke City.

He’s been a regular for the Italian side since his arrival, making six appearances in all competitions so far and managing 90 minutes in four of those to date.

Those are numbers he is likely to improve on before the end of the season, and it seems Genoa are keen to keep him beyond the end of his loan deal.

Calciomercato report general manager Johannes Spors as having ‘assured’ as much, stating to La Reppublica: “He wants to stay, and we are working on it.”

They say the Brighton defender was ‘undoubtedly’ the best signing of the January transfer window, and the club ‘will do everything’ to get him back.

Their initial loan deal with Brighton is only until the end of the season, but it does include an option to buy him back at the end of the season.

The value of that deal isn’t mentioned here, but it’s likely to be significantly more than the £900,000 Brighton paid to sign him from Molde in August 2018.

Either way, Genoa are keen to get their man, and this appears to be one deal that shouldn’t take all that long to complete, particularly if Spors words on the matter are true.
