After avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season, Leeds United are in another relegation battle this season.
Jesse Marsch helped the Whites last season but the American wasn’t there for the final weeks this time, after Leeds showed him the exit door in February and appointed Javi Gracia as his successor later that month.
Prior to appointing Gracia, Leeds looked at other candidates, including Feyenoord manager Arne Slot. The latter had even confirmed the approach from the English club, who were ready to offer him a deal worth €4m per year and €3m to the Eredivisie side.
Dutch journalist Wilfred Genee has told Veronica Offside, relayed by Voetbal Zone, that Slot wanted to leave Feyenoord for the Premier League club earlier this year.
Algemeen Dagblad’s Hugo Borst and Voetbal International’s Martijn Krabbendam indicated the 44-year-old will continue at Feyenoord next season. Genee has dismissed this and when explaining, he revealed Slot was open to joining Leeds in February.
“I heard from people last week that he is not staying anyway. He does not want to run the risk that things can go very badly in the Champions League and that he will no longer be in the picture with the big clubs. He wants to be financially independent as soon as possible. It’s easier at a big club,” he said.
“He wanted to go to Leeds. They wanted to pay €4m and he found that attractive. Spurs want to pay even more.”
