Anthony Limbombe and Huddersfield Town was something of a transfer saga during the summer window.
There were claims in Belgium, repeatedly, that a move was on the verge of happening, with various fees and offers being reported. Limbombe had even been house hunting in Yorkshire according to the claims, and it all seemed quite believable.
But the move failed and the Club Brugge player ended up going to Nantes in Ligue 1 instead, much to the surprise of many in Belgian football.
Voetbal Niuews cover it and say Club Brugge only got €8m from Nantes, much less than what they could have got from Huddersfield.
French football analyst Pascal Scimè is quoted as saying: “Honestly, I do not think Nantes was his first choice, he wanted to go to England, but in the end he did not have that choice anymore, but Nantes could be a nice stepping stone for him.”
Saying he no longer had the option of a move to the Premier League would insinuate Huddersfield pulled out of the running, perhaps becoming frustrated with how things were dragging out.
