Tottenham Hotspur brought in Antonio Conte last November, immediately after sacking Nuno Espírito Santo.
The 53-year-old guided the north London club to a top four finish last term and that helped them to qualify for the Champions League.
On Wednesday, the Italian stressed this feat as ‘something miraculous’, considering where he started with Tottenham.
A 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League tie yesterday has helped Spurs sit on top of their group after four matches.
In the Premier League, Tottenham are third in the table with 20 points from nine games and are three points behind leaders, Arsenal. Emerson Royal played the full 90 minutes against the German club and after the tie, he had a chat with AS.
Taking Tottenham’s form into account, Emerson was asked whether his side can compete for the title this season. He said: “Well, we are working for that. Last season the coach spoke with us and told us that this season was going to be different, that we were going to fight for big things.”
“And we too, we have the mentality to win everything we are contesting. The first step is taken by the mentality, believing that we can and that is what we are doing.”
“We are going to continue working, yes, we want to win the Premier League and we want to win the Champions League.”
Emerson has been the first-choice right wing-back under Conte and has made 14 starts in all competitions this season.
Regarding his own role at Tottenham, he explained: “Well, I work every day for that. I want to help the team in any way, be it by scoring or by attacking… the important thing for me is that the team is growing, improving every day and the game against Eintracht was very important for us.”
