A couple of weeks ago, Celtic welcomed Lazio in the Europa League, and everything went to plan for Neil Lennon’s men on the pitch.
The Scottish side walked away with the three points after overcoming Simeone Inzaghi’s men 2-1, but it was off the pitch that a few incidents took place.
Lazio fans were seen making fascist signs on their way to the stadium, and there were claims a number of them were looking for a fight the night before.
Ahead of the return fixture in Rome on Thursday, Calciomercato.it had a chat with Celtic defender Christopher Jullien, who was asked about the ‘tension’ between fans in Glasgow and what message he had for everyone on Thursday.
He said: “We all want to only talk about football and another great game. That’s what we want from Celtic and that’s what everyone should want. We know that our fans follow the team in a positive way and have a great reputation when they travel in Europe. They have been to Italy many times, visiting cities like Milan, Turin and Udine.
“They have enjoyed great games. We want the same thing to happen, for them to support us on the field and enjoy Rome, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”
In all honesty, that’s what everyone wants, and the last anyone will be hoping for is news coverage of fights or injuries being sustained in the streets of Rome.
Hopefully everything will go smoothly, and Jullien will get what he and all involved with Celtic want: three points and a step in the right direction i.e. out of the Europa League group stages.
