In need to strengthen their attacking division for this season, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Saša Kalajdžić from VfB Stuttgart in the last week of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League side had identified other strikers as targets prior to completing the deal for the Austrian.

Among them was Genk star Paul Onuachu. Back in September, the 28-year-old had revealed that Wolves showed interest in securing his services prior to signing Kalajdžić.

While the English club have struggled this term, the Nigeria international has excelled for the Jupiler Pro League side, managing 13 goals from 14 matches.

Het Laatste Nieuws had a detailed interview with Onuachu, where they asked the player about the chances of him leaving Genk in January.

Responding to that, he said: “I have been talking so much about transfers in recent years. If they want me, they have to show up. But honestly? It’s the last thing that interests me today. I’m happy and concentrate on Genk.”

Kalajdžić suffered a serious injury on his debut and is expected to spend most of this term on the sidelines. Raúl Jiménez has not featured for Wolves since the end of August. This forced the Premier League side to sign Diego Costa on a free transfer in September.

Costa has struggled, while the other two have been working on their recoveries. Recent claims have stated that new Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui wants to bring in a striker in the winter market.

Following Onuachu’s latest claim, Wolves may be given a new opportunity to sign him in the next window.
