Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Jan Paul van Hecke has revealed the club want to take a look at him this summer before deciding his future.
The 22-year-old joined Brighton on a £1.8m deal from NAC Breda in September 2020 but has spent the last two seasons out on loan, first at Heerenveen and then Blackburn.
He established himself as a key player for Rovers in the Championship last season, racking up 32 appearances in all competitions as they finished eighth.
That loan deal came to an end this summer, and the defender is, at least temporarily, set to return to Brighton for pre-season.
The belief was that he would be shipped out on loan next season, with the defender unlikely to be a part of Graham Potter’s plans for next season.
It seems, though, any potential move away is firmly in the background for the time being, with Van Hecke revealing what Brighton have told him thus far.
“I’m still pretty fit because I’ve been on the road with Jong Oranje for another eighteen days,” he told Omroep Zeeland.
“And I am now used to English football. That makes a big difference. I am curious how I am doing, but they have said they want to see me.
“Dreams are always allowed. Making my debut against Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. We are going to see in the near future. Playing in the Premier League was the ultimate goal as a little boy.”
