Feyenoord coach Arne Slot has warned Celtic that they intend to close out their Champions League group stage with a big performance, even if the result ultimately means nothing.
The Dutch coach has been speaking ahead of the clash with Celtic in the Champions League group stages next week.
The Dutch side travel to Celtic Park for their final game in Group E looking to end their ultimately unsuccessful campaign on a high.
They currently sit third in the group with six points from five games, meaning they have no chance of catching Lazio in second, who have 11 points, or Atlético Madrid in first, who also have 11 points.
It means the clash with Celtic ultimately means nothing for either team, with Feyenoord already qualified for the Europa League knockout round as they’re five points ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ side with just one game remaining.
Slot and his players aren’t looking at it as a free pass, though, and he insists they instead intend to put on a good show as they exit the competition.
“It really counts for something, because we played four good games in the Champions League and put Feyenoord on the map in a great way by playing real football that impressed many Dutch people,” he said.
“That was not the case against Atlético at home and that is why we want to prove ourselves one more time at Champions League level in a very difficult away match against Celtic.
“And indeed, a number of people within Feyenoord have already pointed out that 2.7 million to me several times. But I think it is much more important that we say goodbye to the Champions League in a dignified way.”
