Last Friday, Sports Digitale reported Hull City president Acun Ilıcalı had officially requested a meeting with Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan to discuss a potential deal for Abdülkadir Ömür.

A day later, multiple reports from Turkey stated the Championship side have agreed a €6m deal with Trabzonspor to sign the midfielder. This claim has now been dismissed by the Tigers president.

Ilıcalı appeared as a guest on Beyaz TV’s Beyaz Futbol, where he talked about Hull City’s desire to sign the 24-year-old in the winter market, and his quotes are relayed by Cumhuriyet.

The Tigers official made it clear that there isn’t a deal in place with the Süper Lig side yet but confirmed his side’s firm desire to acquire the Turkey international’s services.

Ilıcalı has also complimented his Trabzonspor counterpart for helping the English club to get this deal over the line.

“Our contacts with Ömür continue. Thanks to Doğan, he’s very helpful. Abdülkadir wants to play abroad, and I think Abdülkadir will be transferred for a lot of money, he has the potential to go to other teams,” he said.

“We want to complete this transfer with a high share [percentage] on the future sale for Trabzonspor. We want Trabzonspor to win too. Negotiations continue positively, but we haven’t signed yet. We aren’t considering any other transfers from Turkey.”

The Hull City president hasn’t mentioned the fee that’s needed to conclude this deal. The attacking midfielder’s current deal lasts until 2027 and Transfermarkt value him at €8m.

Ömür has made 17 appearances for Trabzonspor this season, managing six assists in the process.
