Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has been speaking on Italian TV show ‘Tiki Taka’ (via FC Inter 1908) following the club’s 2-1 win over Premier League champions Leicester City.
He said: “We had a good reaction after the Liverpool game. Last year they won, they have the experience of dealing with two competitions, and are playing in the Champions League and the Premier League, but they’re a strong team, we also deserved to win, but they are good.”
The former Inter boss was also asked about the goals Watford have set for themselves this season. Mazzarri insists the goal is to stay in the Premier League this season, despite a good start, and that will remain the sole focus.
He added: “The president told me that we had to consolidate and grow, I don’t give myself targets, but for this year the goal is to secure salvation and then rise to higher levels, the project has just started.”
Watford are currently eighth in the standings, and they host Stoke City next on Sunday. Mazzarri pointed out Stoke City have great players like Xherdan Shaqiri and they can’t take them lightly, but Watford must surely be confident they can get something.
