Chris Smalling remains a Manchester United player, and there’s now a little panic building over his future.
With the transfer window closing on Monday at 5pm, time is quickly running out for AS Roma to get the defender in.
Having had Smalling on loan last season, the Serie A club have been desperate to get him back for the current campaign and the longer term, yet haven’t yet managed to meet the demands of the Premier League club.
They’re current offer stands at €15m, and that hasn’t yet done the trick.
It’s a game of poker, and Gazzetta dello Sport now report Diogo Dalot has been pulled into the picture. The Italian newspaper, carrying on their theme of Smalling being something of a hostage, say the defender is ‘exhausted by this whole situation’ and is becoming annoyed.
Dalot could unlock the situation, with Roma potentially taking him on loan and then, presumably, a way being found to market the deal which makes nobody look a loser.
Gazzetta state everyone is ‘waiting for answers’ and it’s now a ‘race against time’ to get the Smalling move, and perhaps Dalot’s, over the line.
