Paulo Fonseca is currently ‘waiting’ for news from Newcastle United to find out whether he’s got the managerial job, recently vacated by Steve Bruce.
The Portuguese coach, who most recently worked at AS Roma, has been in a similar situation before. He was thought to be as close, if not closer, to becoming Tottenham Hotspur manager, replacing Jose Mourinho, as he is now with Newcastle, so will be well aware how things can change until everything is finalsed.
TMW report Fonseca is ‘ever closer’ to getting the job, having held talks with the Premier League club on Wednesday.
Taking claims from Sky Italia, they say Fonseca has flown back to his home in Ukraine, where he’ll presumably stay until someone tells him otherwise.
That may suggest things aren’t hugely imminent with Newcastle right now, hence him having time to fly further away from the English side.
He’s still thought to be in pole position, so it’s a case of Fonseca watching his phone for the coming days.
