The European sport media have for years been aghast when a footballer’s mother is involved in her son’s career, or even dares to speak about it.
Fathers acting as agents and continually talking to the media is seen as natural, and happens on an almost daily basis, yet when it’s a mother all sense goes out the window.
Monday’s edition of Corriere Torino has an article specifically on mothers being involved in transfers right now, likely because they’re annoyed Juventus target Arthur doesn’t fancy the move, and his mum has made that clear.
Newcastle United get a mention when it comes to Adrien Rabiot. His mother and agent, Veronique, knows very well how the media deal with these instances, and she won’t be surprised to hear Corriere Torino have labelled her ‘volcanic’.
She’s said to have initiated contact with several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, about a summer transfer.
Along with the Magpies are Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal. Newcastle United and the Toffees are presented as the strong tracks right now.
In all honesty, it doesn’t feel like a great deal is happening, Corriere Torino clearly just wanted to snipe at mothers.
