German striker Lukas Podolski has revealed how Manchester City visited his agent earlier his career to offer him a move from Bayern Munich.
The striker has been speaking to the 1. FC Köln podcast, relayed by BILD, about his career so far, which has seen him play in Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, Japan and now Poland.
He started his career with Köln and made his way up the various ranks at the club before starring for the first team and then earning a move to Bayern Munich in 2006.
He spent three years with the German giants, scoring 26 goals and registering 20 assists in 106 games for the club before eventually returning to Köln.
It was only Bayern Munich and later Arsenal, rather than Manchester City, who managed to lure him away from the club, with BILD explaining that Cologne and Podolski enjoy ‘real love’, even to this day, that proves difficult to break.
That didn’t stop the offers from coming in down the years, though, and it seems rather than returning to the city in 2009, he could have instead moved to Manchester City.
“I was in negotiations with Manchester City when I was at Bayern Munich,” he told the podcast about where he could have ended up.
“They visited my agent and me in Munich and wanted to convince me to change.”
