Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has detailed how Arne Slot has fitted in neatly at Liverpool, replacing Jurgen Klopp with little fanfare.

Voetbal Primeur cover comments from the defender today made in an interview with Viaplay in which he lavishes praise on Slot and the work he’s done at Liverpool so far.

The Dutch coach arrived in the summer to replace Klopp, who made the surprise decision to leave Anfield at the end of last season despite having a year left on his deal at the time.

Many had predicted a big drop off from the highs enjoyed under the German but so far that has not been the case, with Liverpool top of the Premier League after losing just one game all season. They also sit top of the Champions League table after winning all of their games in that competition to date.

It’s been a seamless transition from Slot, who appears to have smartly built on the foundations laid by Klopp rather than tearing them up and starting from scratch.

His demeanour has also won over the fanbase quickly and Van Dijk has certainly been impressed by what he’s seen so far.

“His influence on the current success is very big,” he said.

“In my opinion, he has taken over a very good group with a lot of quality and you are at a club where a lot is in order. Replacing Klopp alone is of course a difficult task, which he has really taken on very well so far.

“In the way he presents himself, in interviews or to the outside world, but also especially to us in meetings: he gives a good explanation of how we want to play and defend, etc. It is all very clear. Even though we won, we still show lesser moments to keep us sharp.”
