Coming off against Crystal Palace with a concussion, Vincent Kompany has since been ruled out from any future action for the coming weeks with a knee injury.
The 30-year-old Manchester City defender has seen the past few seasons of his career plagued with injuries, which obviously are taking a toll on his body, but many feared could also affect his mental state, with constant setbacks difficult to digest.
However, according to the player’s brother, speaking to Belgium’s Radio 1 and relayed by DH, Kompany is trying to remain as positive as possible, even if that is difficult to do at times.
He said: “This injury has nothing to do with his normal muscular problem. It’s just simple bad luck. Mentally, Vincent is good. He’s just tired of these problems. Each injury is annoying, but that’s how it is. He needs to continue to work to come back and hope this doesn’t happen anymore.”
Easier said than done, regaining fitness after such a long time out could take a while, and ensuring the player is fully recovered before using him is a necessity, as pointed out by his former Belgium national team manager, Marc Wilmots, last week in an interview with French TV channel L’Equipe 21.
Only making five appearances for Manchester City so far this season, the club captain’s authority on the pitch has been missed by Pep Guardiola, who would love nothing more than have the Belgium international on the pitch if possible.
