Vincent Kompany is no longer a regular starter for Manchester City and has made only four starts in the Premier League this season.
The defender’s contract at the Etihad will expire next summer and The Sun in England reported the 32-year-old has emerged as a target for Barcelona, if Samuel Umtiti doesn’t recover from his knee injury quickly.
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing for Mundo Deportivo, has provided an update in today’s edition of the newspaper and he claims the La Liga winners have ruled out the possibility of signing the Belgium international.
Rico doesn’t explain why the Blaugrana are not looking at the adding the centre-back to their squad, but another Catalan newspaper Sport details why it’s not possible for the Spanish champions to sign the City captain.
Sport mentions that Kompany’s profile is liked by Ernesto Valverde’s side, but his salary makes it ‘impossible’ for them to make an approach for him.
Barca’s goal is to bring in a player on loan with a purchase option and someone who will ‘charge less’.
Considering the fact Barcelona are looking to bring in a central defender to cover for Umtit, who is injured, it hardly makes sense for them to make an approach for Kompany, who himself has struggled with injuries.
