Leeds United are eyeing up a move for Granada manager Diego Martínez should Marcelo Bielsa leave this summer.
That’s what Onda Cero report today, stating that Leeds are ‘one of the dangers’ that threaten Martínez’s continued stay at the Spanish club.
Martínez is out of contract with Granada in the summer, and they are keen to ensure he stays longer after a great season in which they’ve impressed in La Liga, currently sitting in 8th place.
The club’s manager want him to remain in charge for at least another two years, but despite the fact both parties are ‘getting closer and closer’, there are ‘external temptations’ that could lead him away.
Indeed, their technical secretary Miguel Ángel Corona has already begun talks with Martínez’s agent to find out what his conditions would be to make the move.
They aren’t the only interested club, those, with Leeds United another ‘one of the dangers’ that threaten his continuity.
Their interest comes via Victor Orta, who is an ‘old acquaintance’ of Martínez and is eyeing him as a replacement for Bielsa should he decide to depart.
The Argentine is also out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign an extension, meaning Leeds need to plan ahead in case he decides to head for pastures new.
That’s unlikely given the success he’s enjoying, and it’s worth remembering that Bielsa has regularly waited until the end of each season before dealing with a renewal.
Still, there is a small doubt, and it seems should he not stay at Elland Road; those in charge already have a replacement in mind.
