Three years on from their remarkable title success, Leicester City’s squad from that time still struggle to get the recognition they deserve.
Rather than praising them and their ability, their title win has mostly been credited to the big six underperforming and other teams missing their chance.
To this day people write off just how good that side was, failing to rank them among the best the Premier League has seen even though theirs was the most unlikely win of the Premier League era.
Even those who played with that group of players seem to underestimate their talents and former Leicester man Vicente Iborra is one of them.
Iborra joined Leicester the year after their title success but never really settled at the club, eventually joining Villarreal this summer in a £9m deal.
That didn’t stop him making assessments, though, and he believes the current Sevilla squad is better than Leicester’s who won the title.
“The Sevilla squad is much more complete than the Leicester league champion one,” he told Canal Sur Radio, relayed by El Desmarque.
“Playing in Sevilla anything can happen, and if someone can do something great, that is Sevilla,” he said.
“It is a very complete squad, a very physical team, difficult to overcome, in defence well worked and has resources. They’re vertical with great finishers.”
What Iborra seems to be overlooking is the fact that this Leicester team not only won the Premier League but also made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League the following year, ironically beating Sevilla.
They are hardly bad credentials, and it’s hard to see this Sevilla side, which was only assembled in the summer, matching that any time soon.
Then there’s the fact he arrived the year after they were successful and didn’t play until January, meaning he really wouldn’t know much about that title-winning squad anyway.
Instead, this seems like an easy dig at a club he didn’t enjoy playing for to appease the fans of one that he did.
