As we are certain you already know, Usain Bolt, now retired from track and field, is attempting to forge a very late career in football, currently on what appears to be an extended trial at Central Coast Mariners in Australia.
Before all of this, however, the Jamaican superstar was, and still is, a Manchester United fan, so who better for Gazzetta dello Sport to interview ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Juventus in the Champions League.
Starting off with an anecdote, the 34-year-old explained the craziest thing he’s done while supporting the Red Devils is carrying on watching a game at an airport when he was supposed to be boarding his flight: “I think the flight might have been delayed a bit.”
Going back to the very beginning, Bolt also revealed Ruud Van Nistelrooy is ‘the reason’ why he started supporting Manchester United in the first place, reminding Gazzetta that he scored against Juventus in 2003.
As for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, the wannabe footballer explained he’d rather have him on his team, where he’s always welcome, but that he has ‘so much respect’ for the Portuguese footballer as a player, for everything he’s done on the pitch.
What about Mourinho? Bolt reckons a good run of games will shut the critics up.
And his prediction for Tuesday evening? “Manchester United are playing at home, which is an advantage. Playing at Old Trafford or away isn’t the same thing. I can’t see a game with a lot of goals, so I’m saying 1-0. Yes, I reckon 1-0 for United.”
We all know José Mourinho will take that.
