Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga needs to play his part and sort out his relationship with Sweden’s management so he can get back into the squad.

That’s according to Anders Limpar, speaking to Fotboll Direkt, who believes it is up to the Nottingham Forest forward to help fix the issue.

Elanga has had a frustrating start to the season for Nottingham Forest where he’s been in the starting 11 just 73% of the time and featured in just 66% of the available minutes in the Premier League this season.

He’s also currently out of the picture for Sweden, missing this international break after spending the last one sat on the bench as an unused substitute.

There’s been something of a falling out between him and the country’s current management, with various reports explaining that Elanga refused to pick up the phone to John Dahl Tomasson when he called recently.

That followed a report of Elanga refusing to join in with a group dinner, a decision that has not gone down well in Sweden.

His international future looks bleak at this moment in time because of the current situation and Limpar believes the Nottingham Forest man has to do his own work to rectify matters.

“When I played, you hardly dared to tell the coach something, then you just had to bite the bullet and play. Young people today are a bit cockier; they are more egotistical and want to emphasise themselves a bit,” he said.

“It has been a bit infected there, most recently with Elanga, before that with Hugo Larsson. I don’t really know the meaning of why they argue the way they do, but as a player I think you should stand behind the coach, that’s my position.

“The fact that they don’t get in touch with each other, why they do that, I can’t answer. I can only believe that Elanga is very upset and angry because he is not selected and therefore sucks at answering.

“But in the next collection he might be included and then it’s embarrassing for Elanga not to have the contact.

“I think you should be big enough that you can get a hold of each other. Then maybe Jon Dahl can call Nottingham and ask him to call after training, for me it’s a bit of a sandbox level not to get a player.”
