A week ago we brought claims from Portugal that a Wolves deal to sign Pelé from Rio Ave was ‘practically concluded’.
It was Portuguese newspaper A Bola with the claims, and they stated the player would be moving to Wolverhampton for €10m.
It was a messy situation, as we further explained, with the player’s ownership getting more complicated since a 2016 transfer to Wolves failed due a foot injury.
Four days ago, O Jogo, another Portuguese newspaper, tried to take things back a bit, and claimed that whilst there’d been ‘indications’ a Wolves offer would arrive, nothing had been made concrete yet.
Despite all their recruitment from Portugal, Wolves don’t really scout in the country, so must get their information via some other means.
O Jogo were very impressed with Pelé’s performance, saying not only did the midfielder score two penalties, showing his ‘usual coolness’ and making it 7 from 7 attempts this season, but was also ‘decisive’ helping his team in defence.
That’s the general feeling of the wider Portuguese media. That the Wolves target is receiving praise can only be good news, even if transfer claims have quietened a little.
