The English media reporting interest from West Brom in Jhon Cordoba has inevitably caught the eye of their German counterparts. The 24 year old provided 8 goals and three assists across all competitions for FC Mainz last season, playing almost 40 games in a centre forward position.

It’s not exactly form which would suggest a Premier League move is imminent, but Cordoba was one of Mainz’s best players and they don’t want to lose him. Finishing just outside of the relegation players, Mainz intend to kick on next season and that doesn’t involve losing Cordoba.

Bild have picked up claims of West Brom interest, and contacted Mainz general manager Rouven Schröder, who told them: “There are currently no enquiries or offers for Jhon.”

That wasn’t enough for Bild, who continued digging, and found out that West Brom officials have been repeatedly at the Opel Arena this season, checking out the Mainz talent.

The newspaper also say, according to their own information, that in the face of a €10m offer, Mainz would go ‘weak’.
