Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media it’s unnecessary to speculate on the future of Malmo manager Magnus Pehrsson.
The defending league champions have struggled for form this season, but they can put this right in tonight’s Swedish cup final.
Speaking to Expressen, the Leeds United star was asked about his former club’s troubles and the future of Pehrsson: “I think you need some wins, a little self-confidence and then it will roll again. I just think it’s unnecessary to start talking about Magnus’ departure.”
Since arriving at Leeds United from Torino in 2016 the Sweden international has become a cult hero with the Elland Road faithful due to his uncompromising approach. He’s also played for a string of managers at the Championship club, so probably knows the importance of stability, which may impact upon his Malmo thinking.
He instantly became a key player in the Leeds United team, and his performances helped him force his way back into reckoning with Sweden after being snubbed at Euro 2016.
Jansson is also held in the same esteem at Malmo, a club he supported as a child and also started his career at. The 27 year old is still known to travel back to his home country to watch Malmo, and has indicated in the past he would like to play there again.
