Firenze Viola report that Patrick Cutrone failing to get off the bench against Watford this is an ‘unequivocal sign’ he’s about to leave Wolves.
They believe the fact he’s been used so little lately is a clear sign he’ll be moving on in the January transfer window, with Fiorentina ready and waiting to take the player.
We covered claims earlier this week that an agreement was pretty much in place between the Florence club and Cutrone, and that talks were ongoing with Wolves. That Italian report suggested things could be done within 24 hours, and they weren’t.
Firenze Viola have spoken to Walter De Vecchi, who coached the Wolves player as a youngster, and asked him what he thinks about Cutrone being ‘about to return to Italy’.
De Vecchi answered: “I am happy for him, I hope this negotiation can really materialise: for Patrick this is an important occasion, Florence is the right place to redeem himself because Fiorentina wants to sign someone exactly like him.”
Asked why it hasn’t worked out at Wolves for the striker, De Vecchi suggested not being Portuguese is partly to blame: “It is not easy to change habits, customs, language and type of football and to think in just six months of doing well. You have to think that even the training sessions are different than those done in Italy. Furthermore, many of the strikers in force at Wolverhampton are Portuguese like Espírito Santo and are therefore his trusted men.”
If Nuno thought Cutrone could give him more than other options then surely his nationality wouldn’t come into it.
There’s clearly now an assumption from some in Italy that a move is happening, although basing that on him not getting off the bench against Watford is a bit of a reach.
