Bayern Munich being interested in Unai Emery obviously caused a little worry for Aston Villa for a while. One of the biggest clubs in Europe, fighting for big trophies every season and with power in the transfer market is always going to be appealing.
Aston Villa quickly used their clause to extend the manager’s contract until 2027 and are now set to sit down in the summer and negotiate a potentially longer deal.
Emery has done a brilliant job at Aston Villa and is by all accounts very happy there. Indeed, even before the extension was announced the German media had largely thrown in the towel on behalf of Bayern, saying Emery had found a ‘Spanish Paradise’ in Birmingham.
This summer, he’ll want additions for a possible campaign in the Champions League, and it’s Monchi’s job to secure those.
Estadio Deportivo report Emery is once again looking at Athletic Club Bilbao’s Nico Williams. It’s claimed the manager has twice tried to convince the player and has been rejected on both occasions.
Nico will obviously feel he made the right decision, after taking part in Athletic’s glorious Copa del Rey victory and all the celebrations which happened since.
He achieved that alongside his brother Inaki and they are now both legends at the Basque club. Nico is still only 21-years-of-age and he may feel that he’d like to stay longer, with so much time ahead for a big transfer.
Estadio Deportivo report Emery has ‘entrusted Monchi with a mission’ to convince Nico Williams otherwise, and that he should be joining Aston Villa this summer.
The price is relatively easy, given he has a €50m clause. The mission to convince the player, however, will be far more difficult.
