Pep Guardiola’s summer shopping spree is going to be huge, even if only a fraction of the media reports are to be believed. It creates interest in Spain, not simply related to Guardiola but also to the rest of Manchester City’s Spanish management, including Txiki Begiristain.
El Confidencial believe Begiristain knows he has a big task ahead of him this summer, because Guardiola may not have got it right during the last summer window. Guardiola spent more than any other Premier League manager last summer, but now he more fully understands the situation at Manchester City and can plan better.
There’s serious doubt over several players, and question marks hanging over others. Even Sergio Aguero has had his future questioned, although the injury to Gabriel Jesus may have calmed that situation.
El Confidencial point out that Claudio Bravo was a personal ask of Guardiola, but it clearly hasn’t worked out. Bravo is said to be unhappy with playing a back-up role and he could be one of the first to go as Guardiola ‘clears out his recruiting that was not successful’.
Begiristain has a mighty job ahead of him.
