Manchester City have turned down Hellas Verona’s latest attempt to keep Ivan Ilic, according to reports from Italy.
Newspaper Corriere Di Verona writes that the Serie A side, who had the 20-year-old midfielder on loan this season, recently made an approach to keep him on another temporary spell.
But Txiki Begiristain, described by the outlet as a ‘legend of Spanish football and director of football of the Citizens’, turned down the offer.
The outlet claims that Verona should soon try to make another attempt to sign the player, while he’s on international duty playing a friendly tournament in Japan.
Ilic made 30 appearances for Hellas Verona last season, and it’s no secret that his performances for the club have motivated their interest in keeping him for longer.
The Italian media has been pointing out that the club can trigger the €10m buying option to keep him, although Manchester City would have the right to buy him back for €20m afterwards.
They say it’s the player who should have the final word on his future, that’s after Begiristain, of course.
