Last year, when it seemed like Fernandinho was close to leaving Manchester City and perhaps move back to Brazil, the midfielder ended up agreeing to a new one-year deal at the club.
Now as his contract is once again close to its expiration, with only four months left, it seems that could happen once again.
According to Brazilian outlet Torcedores, Manchester City have been moving ‘behind the scenes’ to renew his deal, as director Txiki Begiristain has Pep Guardiola’s approval for that.
The plan is said to be to give Fernandinho another one-year deal. They’d also like to raise his salary, which said to be of €1.1m a month.
Torcedores claims there have been some meetings between Manchester City and Fernandinho’s agent Giovanni Branchini, and there’s ‘no hurry’, as the renewal depends more on Fernandinho than on the club.
That’s bad news for Brazilian clubs, who’d been hopeful that the midfielder would finally leave the Premier League this summer. Torcedores claims that following the contacts last week, Atlético Mineiro left ‘open doors’ for his arrival.
Now while Pep Guardiola tries to hold Fernandinho at Manchester City as a player, the Catalan manager is also said to have a spot for him in his coaching staff.
