Tottenham Hotspur put Chelsea to the sword at the weekend, in Maurizio Sarri’s first Premier League defeat.
In doing so they leapfrogged the Blues and are now in third position in the Premier League. Sarri’s match plan just wasn’t right for taking on Spurs at Wembley, and his players didn’t exactly excel individuality to make up for it.
Several Tottenham players did have good, or very good, games.
Dele Alli scored once again against Chelsea, keeping up his good record when playing the club. He also picked up an assist, and the performance has seen him make Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.
Each Monday the Italian newspaper picks a selection of the best performances around Europe, whilst ignoring their own Serie A, and Alli was awarded 8/10.
That’s a very good mark for Gazzetta, who don’t throw eights around like confetti.
But a teammate of Alli’s is rated more highly.
Heung-min Son is awarded 8.5, with only Manchester City’s Leroy Sane matching the mark this week. Son scored Spurs’ third goal, assisted by Alli, and put the game beyond the reach of Chelsea.
