Villarreal’s Xavi Quintillà is edging closer to joining Norwich City, if multiple reports coming out of Spain are to be believed.

According to Marca, the left-back is ‘very close’ to joining the Canaries on a temporary deal this summer.

Daniel Farke saw his side get relegated from the Premier League, a year after making the jump to the top division.

It’s claimed the 23-year-old will play in the Championship for the coming season and Norwich will have to make his stay permanent if they are promoted to the Premier League in 2021.

The Spanish club appointed Unai Emery as their new manager for next season and the former Arsenal boss’ arrival at Villarreal will reduce Quintillà opportunities at the club.

A loan move to Norwich would help him improve his chances of featuring regularly.

Marca’s report is also echoed by Sport. The Catalan newspaper explains Norwich showed ‘great interest’ in the fullback and they are finally close to acquiring Quintillà’s services via a loan deal.

Quintillà made 19 appearances for Villarreal in the 2019/20 season.
