On March 7th, we covered a report from Corriere dello Sport, who explained that Arsenal director of football target Monchi will leave AS Roma after the end of the season
The Italian club were knocked out of the Champions League by FC Porto on Wednesday and a day later the capital club decided to part ways with manager Eusebio Di Francesco.
In April 2017, the Spaniard was appointed as the Serie A outfit’s director of football and his time at Stadio Olimpico could come to an end in the coming days, according to Tutto Mercato Web.
It is claimed that Monchi is now in line to be shown the exit door after Di Francesco was sacked. TMW mentions the club chief and the Giallorossi could end their relationship on Friday.
Another Italian website Calciomercato also mentions that Monchi is expected to resign from his position at Roma today as the ‘story’ between the two is ‘over’.
Even though he is expected to step down today, the announcement could be made next week and this is set to come as good news for the Gunners.
Monchi worked alongside Unai Emery when the two were at Sevilla and the duo were instrumental in helping the Spanish club win the Europa League for three straight years between 2014 and 2016.
Calciomercato says the north London club will pay €3m to Roma in order to acquire Monchi’s services ‘immediately’, who can then help Arsenal plan for the summer transfer window.
