Manchester United are in the picture to sign Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, according to multiple reports from Belgium.
The 24-year-old has less than 18 months left on his contract and has refused to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who state the talks with the Foxes over an extension ‘came to nothing’.
Brendan Rodgers’ side demanded €70m for the Belgium international last summer and it was deemed too high by his suitors.
The situation will be different at the end of the season, when he will have a year left on his contract and Leicester will have ‘their backs against the wall’. His market value is set at €55m, but sources have indicated Leicester ‘will be satisfied’ with €40m.
The player will carefully evaluate all options and ‘some factors will be crucial’. Tielemans wants to join a top club that challenges for silverware and plays regularly in the Champions League.
United ‘already follow’ Rodgers’ man and if they want him, they have been made aware of the conditions needed to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Gazet van Antwerpen state the Red Devils have been following Tielemans, who is ‘ready for a top transfer’ in the summer, for ‘some time’.
The newspaper echo claims made by Het Nieuwsblad that a fee of around €40m will be sufficient to convince Leicester.
United are not the only club as both newspapers state Arsenal, Real Madrid and Juventus are also in the mix to sign the Belgian.
