On Janaury 21st, we covered a report from Sport which stated Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen doesn’t hide his desire to play for Real Madrid.
A day later, Mundo Deportivo explained the Denmark international could replace Luka Modric at Santiago Bernabeu, who wanted to join Inter Milan last summer.
According to AS, there’s been a new development as they claim the Champions League winners have decided to end their interest in the 26-year-old, who has less than 18 months left on his contract.
There are two reasons for this. The first one is that Luka Modric is not leaving the 13-time European champions and the Spanish capital club are working on extending his contract.
Dani Ceballos is viewed as a long-term replacement for the Ballon d’Or winner and this is mentioned as the second reason why Real Madrid have ‘withdrawn from the bidding’ for Eriksen.
Modric and Ceballos share a very good relationship and the former has been helping the 22-year-old from the time he joined the club from Real Betis in 2017.
These Eriksen claims tend to have a pattern in Spain. First it’s reasons Real Madrid may be interested, and then it’s reasons why the move won’t happen… and repeat.
