It seems that Monaco left-back Jorge wasn’t the only player who got stopped from joining Newcastle United because of a work permit this summer.

As reported by the Brazilian media this weekend, Barcelona defender Marlon has gone through the same situation, and had his transfer to the Magpies collapsed due to the lack of doccuments.

Website Globo Esporte claims that the negotiations between Barça and Newcastle were well advanced for a loan deal, but just like in Jorge’s case, there wasn’t enough time to get a permit due to the early deadline day.

Now that the Premier League possibility is off, Marlon has two options that stand out: a loan offer from Turkish side Galatasaray and the possibility of a permanent transfer from Sassuolo.

Several Premier League clubs seem to have suffered with this early closure, leaving their targets still free to join other leagues. Now with two deadline day signings having collapsed, maybe Newcastle will try to do their business earlier next time.
