Joao Virginia left Everton at the end of last season after seven years at the club.
During his time with the Merseyside club, the goalkeeper played only eight first-team games and could never progress from that due to Jordan Pickford’s presence.
The 25-year-old spent loan stints at Sporting, Reading and Cambuur but none of those experiences were likely to change his status at Everton.
Now a free agent, Virginia has spoken to Calciomercato about his future and said that Serie A can be an option for him.
“As I said, I’m ready and I’m listening to several offers, waiting for the right one to materialise. Serie A is a great league, and I’d definitely like to play there one day. There are two or three clubs interested, maybe my next team will be there.”
When asked how his preparation for the upcoming season in going, the Portuguese goalkeeper said: “I’m training daily with other players and I’m doing intensive preparation to be ready as soon as the right call comes. I have my personal goalkeeping coach with me and I’m fit and ready.”
Virginia has previously spoken about how he would be interested in a move to Italy and this is his second interview in two months about a transfer to Serie A. His intentions are therefore pretty clear.
The former Everton player is 25-years-of-age and has plenty of time to make his mark at the top level. It’s likely he’s not got a club yet due to taking his time and wanting to find the right combination of level and minutes.
