L’Equipe reiterate on Wednesday that Idrissa Gueye remains ‘Target No.1’ for PSG as they look to sign a recruit during the winter transfer window.
Julian Weigl has been increasingly linked with the French club over the past week or so, but L’Equipe say it’s Gueye who would be the most desired.
In their Wednesday edition, L’Equipe don’t play any further Pin the Tail on the Donkey with regards to the Everton player’s price, which is relief given figures ranging from €20m to €50m have been used in the French media over the past week.
The twist comes with Adrien Rabiot. PSG need a replacement because their own player is in a contract stand-off and could leave this month.
Given Thomas Tuchel hasn’t been allowed to pick him, he may as well not even be at the club right now.
But L’Equipe feel things may change. It’s explained that Rabiot could stay beyond the end of the January window, and a renewal, although unlikely, isn’t being completely ruled out.
Tuchel would want to pick the midfielder, and that could lead to a calmer and more positive situation.
Should Rabiot stay, and his manager be allowed to pick him, then the need for a reinforcement lessens.
Against the odds, peace may break out at PSG.
