Portuguese newspaper O Jogo brings an exclusive story this Friday about Islam Slimani’s late winter transfer that never really happened.
It’s claimed that the Leicester City loanee wasn’t satisfied with his season he’s having in Turkey, where he’s scored only four goals in 22 appearances for Fenerbahce so far.
That’s when Real Betis’ interest showed up.
O Jogo reports that the negotiations were going well, and Slimani was excited to play in Spain, even though he couldn’t feature in Europa League as he’s already played the competition for Fenerbahce this season.
But when the contract was about to be signed, the Turkish side blocked the deal.
Fenerbahce have agreed with Leicester City a loan until the end of the season, so they’ve told the Foxes they are not planning to lose the player so soon, and simply stopped him from leaving.
Although O Jogo doesn’t say Slimani is unhappy at Fenerbahce, they make it pretty clear the player was really excited to join Betis.
These claims are strange because in Turkey, Fenerbahce have been presented as super keen to see the back of the player.
