With Tottenham sitting top of the Premier League with their best ever start and one of the best starts to a Premier League season ever, it’s fair to say everything is looking rosy.

Ange Postecoglou is the man of the moment; Harry Kane has been quickly forgotten and several new stars have emerged for the fans to adore.

One of those is full-back Destiny Udogie, who has seemingly emerged from nowhere to make the left-back spot his own and become a rising star of Europe. Except, at least according to Calciomercato, there is nothing surprising about it.

They cover the youngster today and say there is no doubt that Udogie ‘will get to the top’, and it could even be argued he is already there.

They say he seems ‘born’ to play in the Premier League, perfectly adapted to ‘that type of football’ thanks to his speed and physique, two traits which embody the best modern full backs.

He ‘isn’t paying’ for his decision to move from Udinese to Tottenham, the latter of whom moved for him more than a year ago.

They paid €25m to sign him from Udinese in 2022, leaving him at the Italian club for a year, when the ‘intuition’ of then director of football Fabio Paratici told him to get a deal wrapped up.

That was a ‘high figure’ for the player at the time, one that some argued was too high, but which is actually ‘turning out to be a bargain’.

The Pozzo family, who own Udinese, put a high asking price on Udogie because they knew they had a ‘diamond in the rough’.

Inter Milan and Juventus had already noticed Udogie and met with his agents several times in the summer of 2022 but gave up when Tottenham made their move.

They’re now benefitting from his rapid progress this season as the full-back looks destined to be one of the best in Europe in the years to come.
