Earlier this week, Arsenal completed the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. The Ukrainian’s exit from the Etihad has increased the Citizens’ need to sign a new left-back this summer.
Manchester City have identified Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella as the priority target. The Premier League winners even made an offer, but it was rejected by the Seagulls.
The 24-year-old featured in a friendly against Reading on Saturday, as Brighton treat the situation with ‘absolute normality’, despite interest from the English champions.
That’s according to Sport, who state the former Barcelona man featuring against Reading ‘keeps the pulse alive with Manchester City’. This is largely because Brighton believe Pep Guardiola’s side will meet their €50m asking price after letting Zinchenko join Arsenal.
Sport add City will raise their offer for the Spaniard, but will not meet the demands set by Brighton, so the ‘tug-of-war will continue’ between the two clubs.
Guardiola’s side will not ‘throw in the towel’ yet for Cucurella. For the deal to take shape, one of the two clubs will have to give in, and if that happens, Manchester City will be his next destination.
