Thomas Tuchel bringing Kepa Arrizabalaga back into Premier League reckoning has been a surprise to many, but is certainly being welcomed by the Spanish media.
Frank Lampard had ostracised the big money signing and it didn’t look like there was a way back for the goalkeeper at Chelsea. However, Tuchel has come in with his own ideas, and one of those appears to be giving Kepa another chance to show he can make himself a success at Stamford Bridge.
Marca pick up on this, and it’s clear the newspaper are taking a very Spanish angle on things, having clearly been annoyed with some of Lampard’s decisions.
In a Tuesday article, they state: ‘The German is conscious of making amends for all the mistakes of his predecessor and after putting up a defence of five and giving minutes to César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, he has recovered Kepa for the cause.’
This has totally changed the outlook on Kepa’s future, believe Marca, despite Tuchel making clear it wasn’t a long term decision he was making by starting the stopper against Newcastle United.
It’s stated the former Athletic Club Bilbao man, who cost Chelsea €80m, will now put up a real fight to get more minutes with the Blues, always conscious that the delayed Euro 2020 is on the horizon and Spain’s goalkeeping position still up for grabs.
