Back on Tuesday, we saw a really short story from Calcio Mercato saying Wolverhampton Wanderers would be interested in the Benfica midfielder Pizzi.
When we say short, we mean really short. The piece had only one line, and didn’t credit the information to anyone else. So we chose to let it pass.
Now Portuguese newspaper Record comes up with the same claims on Thursday. They say the rumour started in the Italian press, but add ‘the truth is it has been around since last summer’.
It’s claimed that Nuno Espírito Santo’s side would be interested in landing the player in the January market, even though Record doesn’t say how much Wolves want to pay or Benfica would demand.
Record writes that Wolves’ interest in Pizzi could be related to Ruben Neves’ future departure, as both players play in the same position.
It all seems like a really vague rumour for now, but we’ll keep an eye open in case something more concrete shows up. It’s worth pointing out that Pizzi is a very important player for Benfica, and only this season he already has six goals and three assists in eight games. So it won’t be very easy to take him from Lisbon.
